MiCA-licensed exchanges: the ESMA register, brand by brand

339 crypto-asset service providers are authorised under MiCA across 26 EEA states, per ESMA's register of 7 Sept 2026. This page reads that file every week, matches it to the exchange brands people actually search for, and says plainly which are on it and which are not.

Not on ESMA's register as of 8 Sept 2026: Binance, Bitget, MEXC, HTX, Bitfinex, Nexo, Uphold, BingX, Phemex, BitMart, CoinEx, CEX.IO. Absence means no entity of that brand appears among the authorised providers on that date. The transitional period that allowed firms to keep serving EEA clients on old national registrations ended by 1 July 2026 in every member state, so a brand missing here is, on this reading, not authorised to provide crypto-asset services in the EEA. Some of these brands still take EEA clients through non-EU entities; that is exactly the situation MiCA authorisation exists to replace.
Reading it

What a MiCA licence does and does not give you

  • One licence, whole EEA. An authorised provider may passport across all member states; the home regulator (the authority column) supervises it.
  • Conduct rules. Client crypto-assets must be segregated from the firm's own; the firm is liable for crypto-assets lost through an incident attributable to it; it must run a complaints procedure and treat clients fairly.
  • No compensation scheme. Investor-compensation funds such as Cyprus's ICF cover MiFID instruments, not crypto-assets. If a licensed provider fails, there is no statutory backstop for your coins.
  • Not for CFDs. A leveraged bitcoin CFD at a broker is a MiFID instrument; the broker is an investment firm and this list does not apply. Our crypto CFDs vs owning crypto explainer covers the difference.
  • Not the UK. UK residents are outside MiCA; the FCA's cryptoasset register and promotions rules apply instead.

Check an exchange in three minutes

  1. 1. On the exchange's EU site, find the legal entity in the footer or terms: the company name, not the brand.
  2. 2. Search that exact name in ESMA's register or on the home regulator's own register. Match the name and the services listed against what you are being offered.
  3. 3. If the entity on the terms is outside the EEA (Seychelles, BVI, Cayman, Dubai), MiCA protections do not apply to you, whatever the brand's other entities hold.

Common questions

Is Binance MiCA licensed?

Not on ESMA's register as of 2026-09-08. No Binance entity appears among the 339 authorised crypto-asset service providers ESMA lists. Absence from the register means the brand is not authorised to provide MiCA services in the EEA on that date; the transitional periods that let firms operate on national registrations ended by 1 July 2026.

Which big exchanges are MiCA licensed?

On ESMA's register as of 2026-09-08: Coinbase (Coinbase Luxembourg S.A., LU); Kraken (Payward Europe Solutions Limited, IE); OKX (OKX Europe Limited, MT); Bybit (Bybit EU GmbH, AT); Crypto.com (BASQUE PAY S.L., ES); KuCoin (KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH, AT); Gate (Gate Technology Limited, MT); Gemini (Gemini Intergalactic EU Ltd, MT); Bitstamp (Bitstamp Europe S.A., LU); eToro (eToro (Europe) Ltd, CY); Revolut (Revolut Digital Assets (Europe) Ltd, CY); Robinhood (Robinhood Europe UAB, LT). Absent on that date: Binance, Bitget, MEXC, HTX, Bitfinex, Nexo, Uphold, BingX, Phemex, BitMart, CoinEx, CEX.IO.

What does a MiCA authorisation give me as a client?

A licensed firm may passport its services across the EEA and must follow MiCA's conduct rules: segregate client crypto-assets from its own, act honestly and fairly, run a complaints procedure, and it is liable to clients for crypto-assets lost through an incident attributable to the firm. It does not give deposit insurance, and investor-compensation schemes such as the ICF do not cover crypto-assets. Custody with a licensed firm is regulated custody, not guaranteed custody.

Does MiCA cover crypto CFDs or leveraged crypto trading at a broker?

No. A CFD on bitcoin is a financial instrument under MiFID, so the broker offering it is regulated as an investment firm (for example by CySEC or the FCA), not as a crypto-asset service provider. This list covers spot crypto-asset services: buying, selling, exchanging, custody, transfers and advice.

Does MiCA apply in the UK?

No. The UK runs its own regime: cryptoasset firms must register with the FCA for anti-money-laundering supervision, and since October 2023 crypto promotions to UK consumers are restricted. A MiCA licence says nothing about a firm's status in the UK; check the FCA's cryptoasset register instead.

How often is this list updated?

Weekly. ESMA refreshes its CSV from national regulators' notifications (this copy reflects ESMA's file of 7 Sept 2026); we read it every Tuesday. For a decision today, open the ESMA register itself and search the legal entity named on the exchange's EU site.

Risk warning. Crypto-assets are highly volatile and largely unregulated. They are not covered by most investor compensation schemes, and you could lose your entire investment.
About this data

Where it comes from

  • • Source: ESMA's register of crypto-asset service providers under Article 109 of MiCA, published as a CSV and compiled from national competent authorities' notifications. Reproduced with acknowledgement of ESMA as the source; this copy reflects ESMA's file dated 7 Sept 2026 and is re-read every Tuesday.
  • • Service letters are our normalisation of ESMA's free-text services column into MiCA's ten categories; the raw wording is preserved in the dataset.
  • • Brand matching uses the legal entity, commercial name and website in ESMA's file. A brand marked absent may be authorised under an entity name we did not recognise; tell us at hello@clarytrade.com and we will correct it publicly.
  • • Informational only, not financial advice. No exchange on this page pays us for the listing; we hold no affiliate relationship with any MiCA-licensed exchange at the time of writing.
